What we offer:

Community Connecting

To truly connect with your community, we believe that it requires more than just being present, being there is just the first step.

Being part of a community is a pathway from presence to contribution with a number of steps along the way. At Stepping With Kindness, the support we provide will always work towards:

  • Empowering individuals to contribute their unique strengths and capabilities to their communities

  • Encouraging community members to work together to find solutions and create meaningful opportunities for contribution

  • Building supportive networks that value the contributions of all members and foster a sense of belonging

  • Supporting individuals in connecting with their communities and finding purpose through shared activities and projects

  • Recognizing the importance of community engagement and contribution for the wellbeing, fulfillment, and growth of individuals and communities as a whole.

Staff Matching

The benefits of getting the right staff for the right person can’t be underestimated. Stepping With Kindness is committed to always doing our best when it comes to getting this fit right. It can even mean that if we don’t have the right person, we won’t establish a service agreement until we can.

For example:

If a person wanted to learn about fishing, I’m not the person to teach them. I love eating fish but I’m not that guy, there would be hooks caught in fingers and we’d come back via the fish and chip shop. Fortunately, we do have that guy, who can teach you how to fish off a jetty, boat, or off the beach. Who know’s what bait to get and how to read the tide times

We believe Staff Matching is critical as it:

  • Uses a person-centered approach to support that prioritises the individual's preferences and goals

  • Takes into account both the interests and needs of the individual, and the skills and capabilities of support staff

  • Considers the individual's interests and hobbies when choosing support staff

  • Ensures that support staff have the necessary skills and experience to effectively support the individual

  • Aims to create support relationships that are satisfying and empowering for both the individual and the support staff.

Capacity Building

By focusing on capacity building and skill development, we aim to empower and equip people with the necessary skills and resources to achieve greater independence and reclaim authorship of their own life.

If requested, we will work closely with clinical supports such as Developmental Educators and Occupational Therapists and utilising scaffolding techniques to support learning that enable people to lead fulfilling lives and achieve their goals.

Establishing an evidence base around what a person is able to do and where they may need support is critical part of getting a person’s support right. Support Staff working with us, will know how to capture this information using Person Centred tools in a way that is practical for future planning and is easily accessible clinicians, Support Coordinators and Plan Managers.

Person Centred Approaches as the only approaches

If you are supporting a person, they should be the key driver of that support and what it looks like. Having a seat at the table, being part of decision making and having the service and support modelled around the persons needs make all the difference.

At Stepping With Kindness, these values are our core values, not just in theory but in practice.

We work in a way that is person centred because it:

  • Fosters a sense of autonomy and control for the person, allowing them to shape their own support and services

  • It encourages active participation and engagement, helping people feel valued and connected to their communities

  • Supports the development of meaningful relationships between the person and their support staff

  • Improves the effectiveness of support by tailoring it to the person's unique needs and preferences

  • Increases the likelihood of positive outcomes and engagement, such as improved wellbeing, increased independence, and greater satisfaction with support

  • Promotes person-centered thinking and attitudes among support staff, leading to a more positive and empowering support environment for the person

  • Reduces the risk of burnout and turnover among support staff by creating more meaningful and satisfying support relationships
